Saturday, April 27th

Nothing captures the essence of motorbiking as much as a roller coaster. We’re not talking about those modern vomit comets that twist your body in endless contortions. We’re referring to the classic, old school coasters rendered in wood with breathtaking acceleration, fun little dips and lots of smooth sweeping turns with the wind in your face. Sounds a lot like a motorcycle ride to us.

This Saturday, we celebrate the thrills of wooden roller coasters with a motorcycle ride to Santa Cruz, home of The Giant Dipper, one of the finest examples of these coasters. Built in 1924, this boardwalk attraction still appears on many top ten lists of roller coaster connoisseurs across the nation. It’s not the biggest nor the fastest coaster of its kind, but The Giant Dipper continues to deliver the most fun outside of riding on two wheels.

We’ll start our journey at Spirit Motorcycles in San Jose and head south through Boulder Creek and Felton, arriving in Santa Cruz. We’ll break break for lunch and pictures at the wharf where you’ll get a great view of The Giant Dipper. The return ride will take us through Capitol and Soquel, up to Summit Road on one of the finest motorcycle roads in the area. From Summit, we’ll take the Old Santa Cruz Highway back down to civilization. A quick glance at the map and you might notice this route looks like a giant dipper.
